Radiologist Confirms Unborn Baby's Heartbeat is Not Just Electrical Activity

Suddenly, unborn babies do not have heartbeats anymore. At least, that is what Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams said yesterday in wild claims that an unborn child is supposedly not a human being.

Abrams used bizarre language that dehumanizes unborn babies and ignores decades of scientific evidence.

Abrams denied science recently when she claimed an unborn baby’s heartbeat is a “manufactured sound” created to control women

“There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks,” Abrams said in the video. “It is a manufactured sound designed to convince people that men have the right to take control of a woman’s body.”

This new terminology is not based on facts or scientific evidence. It’s based on an agenda that supports abortion on demand. “Embryonic pulsing,” for example, is such a vague description that it is hard to understand precisely what it means. And it appears to have been used that way on purpose.

But a radiologist who is an expert in the field posted a thread on Twitter making it clear that the baby’s heartbeat is indeed a beating heart.

Ultrasound only detects density and motion. It cannot detect any electrical activity at all. This is a scientific fact,” radiologist Pradheep J. Shanker confirmed. “It is true that the valves in the heart develop later. However, the cardiac muscles that are located in the embryological heart are contracting. They are in fact moving inward and outward. That is how you define a beat.”

Is the beat the same as a fully grown adult beat? Of course not. We’re talking early and biological development. However, the cardiac tissue is contracting, which is literally what a beat is. To say otherwise is scientific misinformation, and cannot be treated otherwise,” Shanker added.

In 2016, researchers at the University of Oxford published an amazing new study about how early a human being’s heartbeat begins. They found that the heartbeat may begin earlier than initially thought, as soon as 21 days of pregnancy.

The language that the world-renowned scientists used did not mention “embryonic pulsing” or “so-called.” They used words like “heartbeat,” “human embryo” and “heart muscle.”

“First of our three billion heartbeats is sooner than we thought,” the university wrote in its news release about the research.

Later, it noted, “The heart is the first organ to form during pregnancy and is critical in providing oxygen and nutrients to the developing embryo.”

Oxford is just one of many, many sources for this information. Baby websites, doctors, scientific research – even TV shows – and more all acknowledge what millions of mothers know to be true, women who saw or heard it soon after that first positive pregnancy test, the heartbeat of a tiny, living unborn child.

Secular Pro-Life recently compiled a list of quotes from textbooks, scientific journals and other expert sources that confirm an unborn baby’s heart begins to beat as early as 22 days gestation.

For example, a pregnancy outline on the Mayo Clinic website states “the heart and other organs also are starting to form and the heart begins to beat” at about four weeks after conception.

These resources, unlike the Abrams’ new spin, are scientific, specific and accurate. They make it clear that an unborn baby has a heart within the first few weeks of his/her development. Though the heart is not fully developed, it is there and it is beating.

This scientific evidence also implicitly acknowledges the value and humanity of an unborn baby at their earliest stage of development. And that is the real problem for abortion activists. It’s hard to push an agenda that advocates for the killing of a unique, living human being with a heartbeat – one that their mothers now can see and hear, thanks to modern technology.
